NEW "Snakepit" - September 6, 2014

It was an ordeal, the first time New European Championship Wrestling hosted the so-called Snakepit event, revolving around the name giving match; a Battle Royal under Royal Rumble Rules. A sold out Hotspot and a fired up crowd showed, that Snakepit definitely passed this test!

NEW "Snakepit" - September 6, 2014

What? August is over already? Well, that means: NEW!
As always, on the first Saturday of every month, "N E Dub" hardcore fans are asked to come together at the NEW Hotspot again. And with a matchcard like this one? They will!

NEW - Snakepit
September 6th 2014
Erlangen/Heßdorf - Germany
Matchcard:
Singles Match
Adrian Severe vs. Ivan Markov

Ladies Match
Jessy Jade vs. Bhöse Tante XDream

World Heavyweight Championship Match
Mexx vs. Demolition Davies

Snakepit Match
30-Man Battle Royal
with, among others: Ca$h Cra$h, Mr. Exotic Erotic, Juvenile-X, The Arabian Star, Mike Skull, T-K-O, Johann Schuster, and more.
Predictions:
Really? I have to make predictions about this? Oh, damn!

  • Hands down, as impressive as Ivan Markov may think he is, he will never hold a candle to Adrian Severe!
  • With the whole stalker controversy going on, I think that Jessy Jade will get distracted if not even assaulted during the match, thus resulting in a victory of Bhöse Tante XDream. In all honesty, I don't even think she needs the distraction to win...
  • As much as I would like to see Demolition Davies dismantle the current champion, I fear the winner of this match will, somehow, be Mexx. But wait! Wasn't there someone with some kind of briefcase? Yes, I am predicting that, in some way, Juvenile-X will be crucial to the outcome of this match!
  • As for the Battle Royal... Please don't make me pick. There are so many different possible scenarios, how could I ever predict something? I can wish for a few things, but even those would outnumber what would be considered as a prediction and end in nothing but a discussion of possibilities. People, this is not WWE! This is actually still unpredictable! Don't you love it?!

My new life as a SWE Photographer

Some of you may remember that I did a report about the SWE Show "Turbulence 2014" in May. Well, a lot of things have changed and happened since then!

In July, at NEW's "Dealine II", we met the CEO of Swiss Wrestling Entertainment, started to talk, and one thing lead to the other.

Since then, I...

  • ... have created the (German) website for the wrestling company
  • ... met and got to know the man behind "SigMasta Rappo" - google him and you'll know why you all should bow down to this man!
  • ... attended my first wrestling event as part of the crew/team/office
  • ... was doomed to do the ice bucket challenge because I am part of the SWE team now

What can I say, it's great! The feeling of having your arms propped up on the mat while being so damn close with your camera, feeling every vibration and fall of the talents in the ring... Amazing! When you see the wrestlers prepare for their matches "backstage", or are able to pay very close attention to their verbal and non-verbal in-ring communication - that's when you feel you are part of something. You aren't just a watcher, a spectator, no. You are a PART of it!

Can I just express how freaking amazing this is? Thank you!

Review - The Hardcore Truth

Wrestling literature is something you still find rather rarely around, especially if you want a full fledged report and not some stories that are more advertising than anything else.
Bob "Hardcore" Holly's book "The Hardcore Truth" is one of those books (or in this case rather a biography) that is not linked to the WWE and it's probably very high requirements.

Abstract:
“How do you like me now?” In the ring and behind the scenes with Hardcore Holly
Long before he became “Hardcore Holly,” Robert Howard was a fighter. From humble beginnings — a boy dominated by his disciplinarian stepfather but fueled by an unquenchable passion for pro wrestling — Bob grew up struggling to make ends meet.
As an adult with a family of his own to provide for, Bob fought in bars for money before finally following his dream of wrestling. From regional promotions all the way to the bright lights of the WWF, from false starts as Thurman “Sparky” Plugg and “Bombastic” Bob to fame as an internationally known superstar, The Hardcore Truth tells the story of Bob’s life including his 16 years working for Vince McMahon.
In this rollercoaster tale of success and frustration, replete with missed opportunities, broken promises, and a broken neck — a story of fast bikes and faster cars, lost loves and wrestling bears, bar fights and betrayal — Bob shares his uncompromised views on the present wrestling landscape with fascinating insights into the world leader in sports entertainment.

Personal Summary
In times where everyone can write things down and spread them over the internet - much like I am doing right now - we tend to forget that things written down in books don't have to be true either. Yet, The Hardcore Truth is a book that reads itself very authentically and honest, making it easy if not mandatory to believe what has been written down here.

Composed in a very clear style, you follow the life of Bob "Hardcore" Holly, from his youth and his first contact with the local wrestling scene - and how difficult it was to get a foot in the door with the almighty internet not around - over his racing career, to the days spent in WWE and afterwards.
Admittedly, as someone who finds no interest in the racing sport whatsoever, may it be cars or dirt bikes, the reading of these chapters hasn't been a blast, yet the wrestling-related as well as the more personal chapters make up for this.

Holly gives an interesting and - at least to me - unknown insight on the wrestling scene and its beginnings, as well as giving us, the readers, interesting and not well known background data about the life on tour and backstage of the biggest wrestling company in the world. Tidbits about certain coworkers, the collaboration with the office and creatives, and how drug issues, injuries, and personal tragedies are provided from the view of an insider - a view many of us fans wish to have first hand.
Owen Hart, Chris Benoit, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, The Undertacker, Brock Lesnar, CM Punk, Chris Jericho... In his career, Holly had worked with many still well known athletes - and even more - and for many he has a comment or two in his book. Furthermore, important or noteworthy mile and stepping stones of Hardcore Holly's career and the wrestlers linked to them are addressed.

It was a joy reading this biography - with the small exception of the race chapters, but that's just me - and while it leaves me a bit shocked about ways to handle certain things backstage at the WWE, it was great to get this insight and educate myself a bit more about the wrestling business itself, WWE in particular, and the sacrifices the men and women are making just to provide us with an entertaining show!

WWE 2K15 Roster Reveal

The complete roster of the WWE 2K15 game has been revealed today!

I shall not comment on the whole roster, but on a few outstanding ones or rather: those that I am happy about!

CM Punk
I have to admit that this comes very surprising! After leaving the WWE after the Royal Rumble, I thought that they would break with him completely and thus also cutting him out of the roster for the game. Yet, here he is, and we can still see the GTS on our screens for a little bit longer!

Cesaro
Since he has been and still is my most played character in WWE 2K14 I was of course glad to see that Cesaro is part of the new roster as well!

Some others I am glad about seeing again:
Damien Sandow, Justin Gabriel, Erick Rowan, Luke Harper
